I arrived in Houston on Wednesday, April 14th and checked into the Space Center RV Park in League City, TX, located just south of the city. After checking in I drove out to my nephew's (Terry's son) welding business to see him and his fiance, Terri. here are a couple of pictures of them in their shop:
On Thursday, April 15th I drove over to Kemah, TX, a small tourist town on the bay that is probably similar to the boardwalk at Santa Cruz. I wandered around for a couple of hours and then had lunch at Joe's Crab Shack before meeting Trevor and Terri for dinner. Luckily they like Sushi so we had a nice Japanese dinner at a place (I don't remember the name) near their house. It was a good restaurant and they even had natto maki (fermented soybeans, yum!). Following are a couple of photos of Kemah. If you're interested, you can view all of the photos at this link: Kemah, Texas
On Friday, April 16th, I spent the morning hiking in the Armand Bayou Nature Preserve. As usual, it was beautiful and peaceful. Here are a couple of pictures. If your interested in all of them, you can find them at this link: Armand Bayou
After my hike I had lunch at Pappas Seafood House in the Gulfgate Mall, Houston, TX, not far from my RV Park. If you're ever in this area, I highly recommend it. I had fried catfish and crawfish tails that were absolutely delicious. The restaurant is first class and also serves many other types of seafood for those of you who are a little more highbrow.
On Saturday, April 17th I drove down to Galveston, TX, and wandered around the beach area, viewed some of the refurbished mansions and checked out Moody Park where they have a large Aquarium, Terrarium and IMax theatre (housed in pyramids). The San Luis Resort on the beach front was especially inviting. Following are a few pictures. If you're interested all of the Galveston pictures, they are at this link: Galveston, Texas
I concluded my tour by having a late lunch at Landry's Seafood House on the beach. It was excellent.
On Saturday evening Trevor and Terri took me to my first rodeo where we ate competition BBQ, drank beer, danced and enjoyed the show. You have to watch this short video of two girls wrestling calves at this link: Rodeo
On Sunday, April 18th, Trevor and Terri picked me up and we drove down to Galveston where we had lunch at a place called "The Spot" on the beach. After lunch we walked around the "Strand" (old downtown) and the waterfront.
On Monday, April 19th I headed out of Houston over the Baytown bridge.
My next stop is Shreveport, Louisianna, to visit with an old high school buddy and an old Air Force friend.
