Superstition Hike

On Sunday, March 21st I went hiiking in the Superstition Mountains (The Lost Dutchman State Park).  If you're familiar with the Lost Dutchman you will remember that he supposedly left a map showing where he had discovered a very rich vein of gold in the Superstitions.  The Superstitions are beautiful and the hiking this time of year is just manificent.  Here are a couple of pictures showing the beauty.  If you're interested in seeing more of the photos just click on this link:  Lost Dutchman Trails  After you reach this page click on "slide show" in the left corner to see all of the photos.  If you also click the f-11 key the show will be in full screen.  When the slide show is over just click the f-11 key again to exit the full screen mode.

Tucson Air Show

On Saturday, March 20th Jim and I drove to Tucson, AZ to attend the air show at Davis Monthan AFB.  This base is huge and they had many planes on display.  They also had parasailing demonstrations, aerobatic flights, speed demonstrations of some of their hottest jet fighters, and inflight refueling.  The highlight of the show was a performance by the Blue Angels and the Air Force Thunderbirds.  Below is a couple of the photos.  If you're interested in a short two minute video of the flying demonstrations and a few more pictures just click on this link: Air Show Video

Apache Junction (Phoenix), Arizona

I pulled into Phoenix on Wednesday afternoon (March 17th) to visit friends (Jim & Sharon Crouse).  I was in the Air Force with Jim from 1958-1962.  We went through basic training, Air Police school and then were stationed in Puerto Rico for three years.  Sharon and I attended one of the AF reunions with Jim and his wife in 2007.  I checked in at the Golden Sun RV Resort in Apache Junction, AZ which is about 45 miles east of Phoenix near the Superstition Mountains.  This RV park is very nice and has all of the ammenities, pool, sauna, laundry, club house, showers, gym, poll room, etc:

Sharon's aunt Bubbles passed away and I will fly back to Sacramento on Friday, March 26th, attend her memorial service on Saturday and then fly back to Phoenix on Sunday, March 28th to resume my odyssey.
